What is EMDR Intensive Therapy?
At Harbor Light Counseling, EMDR Intensives offer a refined, highly personalized approach to trauma therapy for individuals seeking meaningful progress without the limitations of weekly sessions. Designed for those who value depth, discretion, and clinical expertise, intensives provide dedicated time and space to address distressing experiences in a contained, supportive environment. EMDR intensives are not covered by health insurance and the service is considered to be an out of network (OON) service for clients. Harbor light Counseling can provide a superbill to clients who request — this is something to discuss in more detail should we determine an EMDR intensive is the right treatment option for you.
Rather than accelerating healing, the intensive format allows it to unfold with continuity — minimizing the start-and-stop pattern that can occur in traditional therapy.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps the brain integrate distressing memories so they become less disruptive to your present life. An intensive concentrates this work into extended sessions over one or several days, allowing for sustained focus, careful pacing, and deeper integration.
You remain in control throughout the process. Detailed retelling of traumatic events is not required.

How Intensive EMDR Therapy Works
How Intensive Therapy Works
A Focused, High-Touch Approach to Trauma Healing
EMDR Intensive Therapy offers a refined alternative to traditional weekly sessions — a private, highly personalized therapeutic experience designed for individuals who are ready for meaningful change and prefer a concentrated format. At Harbor Light Counseling, intensives are thoughtfully structured to provide depth, discretion, and continuity in a calm, contained setting. Rather than compressing therapy into brief weekly appointments, the intensive format creates protected time for focused work, allowing healing to unfold with steadiness and intention.
The EMDR Method
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps the brain integrate distressing experiences that remain unresolved in the nervous system. When memories are insufficiently processed, they can continue to influence emotions, beliefs, physical responses, and relationships long after the original event.
EMDR supports adaptive resolution through guided bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tactile tapping, or alternating tones) while you briefly attend to aspects of a memory. The process does not require detailed retelling of traumatic events and is conducted at a pace that respects your capacity and comfort. You remain fully aware and in control throughout the experience.
The Intensive Experience
Each EMDR Intensive at Harbor Light Counseling is individually designed, reflecting both clinical expertise and careful attention to your needs.
Personalized Preparation
Your experience begins with consultation and planning to determine readiness and clarify goals. When appropriate, preparation sessions build grounding skills, emotional regulation, and internal resources — a foundational step for effective trauma work.
Extended, Structured Sessions
Your intensive day is intentionally paced and may include:
-
Orientation and collaborative goal setting
-
Regulation and resourcing work
-
Focused EMDR processing periods
-
Restorative breaks
-
Integration and reflection
-
Grounding before closure
This structure allows progress to unfold without interruption while maintaining stability.
A Calm, Private Setting
The therapeutic environment is designed to feel contained, quiet, and supportive — a space where you can focus fully without external demands. Many clients describe the experience as both deeply engaging and surprisingly grounding.
Integration and Aftercare
Healing continues beyond the session itself. You will receive guidance for rest, self-care, and emotional integration in the days that follow, along with options for follow-up support as needed.
Why Clients Choose Intensives
Individuals often seek EMDR Intensives when they:
-
Desire efficient, high-quality care
-
Have demanding schedules or limited availability
-
Prefer a discreet therapeutic experience
-
Feel ready to address specific memories or patterns
-
Have reached a plateau in traditional therapy
For many, the intensive format provides a turning point, offering clarity, relief, and renewed capacity for living fully.
A Measured, Ethical Approach
At Harbor Light Counseling, pacing matters. Preparation is viewed as protection, not delay. Some individuals benefit from stabilization work before engaging in intensive processing, particularly when trauma has been long-term or complex. Our role is to create conditions where healing can occur safely and sustainably.
Begin with a Consultation
Every intensive begins with a private consultation to determine fit and readiness. Together, we will identify the most supportive path forward, whether that is an intensive now, preparation first, or another approach tailored to your needs.
Custom packages for every client.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Every intensive I offer is tailored to your unique needs and goals, and we'll collaborate to create a program that feels right for where you are and where you want to go.
2-Day Intensive
A 2-Day EMDR Intensive at Harbor Light Counseling is a carefully structured, private therapy experience designed known for depth, focus, and thoughtful pacing. Instead of spreading the work across months of weekly sessions, the intensive format creates protected time to address distressing experiences in a calm, contained setting while prioritizing safety and nervous system stability at every step.
Each intensive is individualized, but the overall flow follows a clinically grounded progression: Preparation → Processing → Integration.
3-Day Intensive
A 3-Day EMDR Intensive at Harbor Light Counseling is a deeply focused, highly supportive therapeutic experience designed for individuals who are ready to address significant trauma, longstanding patterns, or complex experiences in a contained and intentional format. By extending the work across three consecutive days, this model allows for thorough preparation, sustained processing, and meaningful integration without the pressure to rush.
Each intensive is individualized, but the overall progression follows a trauma-informed arc:
Preparation → Deep Processing → Integration & Forward Movement.
What to Expect from an Intensive Therapy Session
With each intensive therapy session over two or three days, each client will experience a highly focused approach to their trauma healing. Harbor Light Counseling takes a personalized approach for each client where proper consultation, planning, and preparation occurs prior to beginning the first day of your intensive.
